¨Better than Fried¨ Oven-Baked Crispy French Fries
There is nothing better than comfort food. Well, except for guilt-free comfort food 🙂 . Folks, these ¨Better than Fried¨ Oven-Baked Crispy French Fries are just that. The french fries have an incredible crispy texture, they´re easy to make and yes, you can eat them like there´s no tomorrow.
Seriously, these french fries are so good they will blow you away. You can serve them as a side dish or even as an appetizer. This recipe makes 4 portions, but in all honesty, in my house the french fries flew off the plate within minutes. So if you love fries like we do, make a double batch.
To make these french fries, I used yukon gold potatoes. But you can use any type of potatoes you like. I also like to leave the skins on the potatoes, as it gives these homemade fries that rustic texture. But again, if you prefer, you can peel them.
TIPS & TRICKS to make this Recipe: The secret here is to soak your cut potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes. This is what helps remove some of the starch from the potatoes, which gives them that crispy texture. In my oven, they where perfectly cooked in 30 minutes, but every oven heats differently, so keep an eye on the potatoes after 25 minutes.
Key Ingredients & Cookware I used in this Recipe:
EXTRA VIRGIN SPANISH OLIVE OIL

Ingredients
- 3 yukon gold potatoes
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp sweet smoked Spanish paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/8 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
Instructions
-
Wash, scrub and pat dry 3 medium yukon gold potatoes, cut off 1/4 inch from each end, stand the potato up and cut into vertical slices that are 1/4 inch thick, cut 1/4 inch thick fries from each slice of potato, add the cut potatoes into a large bowl and fill with cold water to about 1/2 inch above the potatoes, let them sit in the water for at least 30 minutes
-
Drain the potatoes into a strainer and rinse under cold water, then transfer to a dish cloth and pat completely dry, add the potatoes back into the bowl (make sure you dry it first), pour in 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil over the potatoes, a generous 1/2 teaspoon of sweet smoked Spanish paprika, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon sea salt and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, toss together until well combined
-
Add the coated potatoes into a baking tray lined with parchment paper, make sure they´re all in a single layer so they all bake evenly, add into a preheated oven, bake + broil option 250 C - 475 F, after 30 to 32 minutes the french fries should be perfectly cooked and crispy, remove from the oven and transfer to a serving dish, enjoy!

03 . Apr . 2021Altered the recipe slightly as I was using some pre-steamed Charlotte Potatoes I had cooked two days before ( aka Left Overs ). Had them with a Dijon mustard and mayonnaise dip, absolutely superb. Estan rico Albert !

09 . Dec . 2020These were actually excellent. I will be making them again for sure. Just make sure to leave them in long enough, I gave mine a shake every 10 minutes.

20 . Oct . 2020Followed this recipe to the letter…except I do not have a broil and bake oven.. so I followed the alternative procedure… broiled the last two minutes…… but the fries came out chewy… not crispy. The flavor and color was great though! Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Every oven heats differently, you might need to leave your fries in the oven longer. That should do the trick.
