“Better than Deli” No Mayo CREAMY Tuna Salad Sandwich

This no mayo creamy tuna salad sandwich is possibly the best tuna sandwich I have ever tasted. We’re talking layers of flavors, simple everyday ingredients, and all done in about 10 minutes. Serve it next to a handful of chips and a couple of ice-cold beers or some chilled club soda for the best moment in your day.

No Mayo CREAMY Tuna Salad Sandwich

What gives this tuna salad sandwich that creamy goodness is cottage cheese. I used low fat, but you can also use full fat or even nonfat. As for the tuna, I used canned tuna in olive oil. You can also use canned tuna in water if you prefer.

For the bread, I used multigrain sandwich bread. You can use whatever type of bread you like. The most important thing is to make sure you lightly toast the bread. That way, once you add the creamy tuna salad, it doesn’t get mushy and break apart.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans tuna in olive oil 4 oz / 110 grams each
  • 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese 120 grams
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard 14 grams
  • 1/3 cup chopped red onion 50 grams
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery 30 grams
  • 1 clove garlic (finely grated)
  • 1/4 cup chopped dill pickles 35 grams
  • 2 tbsp chopped chives 5 grams
  • 2 tsp lemon juice 10 ml
  • 1 large tomato (thinly sliced)
  • handful shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 6 slices multi grain sandwich bread
  • sea salt & black pepper

Instructions

  1. Drain the cans of tuna into a fine sieve with a bowl underneath, gently flake the tuna to remove any of the excess oil, then transfer the tuna into a large bowl, along with the cottage cheese, dijon mustard, chopped onion, chopped celery, grated garlic, chopped dill pickles, chopped chives, lemon juice, and season with sea salt and a generous portion of black pepper, mix together until well mixed, add in more cottage cheese if the mixture is too dry

  2. Once the mixture is well mixed, make sure to push down on it until you get a paste-like texture, this is to ensure all the ingredients are well bound together

  3. Lightly toast the slices of sandwich bread

  4. Add the tuna salad over the slices of toast, top off with slices of tomato, shredded lettuce, and another slice of toast, enjoy!
