“Better than Take Out” Tuna Melt Sandwich | Seriously GOOD & Easy Recipe

This Tuna Melt Sandwich is truly what comfort food is all about. We’re talking a ton of great flavors, super easy to make and done in just 20 minutes. Serve it next to some roasted potatoes and a garden salad for a simple yet delicious meal.

Tuna Melt Sandwich
To make this recipe, I used Spanish canned tuna in olive oil. You can also use tuna in water if you like. As for the bread, I used slices of sourdough. Any type of bread can be used. The most important part is to lightly toast the bread beforehand; that way, it doesn’t get mushy and fall apart once you add the tuna mixture.

Tuna Melt Sandwich

I topped off the tuna melts with some grated Manchego cheese. You can use other cheeses here, or whatever you have on hand. However, by using the Manchego, it truly gives these tuna melts that lift of Spanish goodness.

TIPS & TRICKS to Make this Recipe: When you broil your tuna melts in the oven, make sure to place them in the middle of the oven. If you place them too close to the source of heat on top, it will brown the outer edges of the bread before the cheese can fully melt.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 2 cans tuna in olive oil 4 oz / 110 grams each
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise 120 grams
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard 15 grams
  • 1 shallot finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic finely grated or minced
  • 1/2 tsp sweet smoked Spanish paprika 1.25 grams
  • 1 tsp lemon juice 5 ml
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley 8 grams
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 cup shredded Manchego cheese 120 grams
  • sea salt & black pepper
  • chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Lightly toast the slices of bread in a toaster, then place them in a baking tray or baking pan that's lined with foil paper, all in a single layer

  2. Drain the cans of tuna into a fine sieve with a bowl underneath, gently flake the tuna, then add into a large bowl, along with the mayonnaise, dijon mustard, shallot, garlic, paprika, lemon juice and parsley, season with sea salt & black pepper, mix together until well mixed

  3. Evenly spread the tuna mixture over the 4 slices of toasted bread

  4. Thinly slice the tomato, add a couple of slices over each bread, then top off with the shredded cheese, making sure to cover the entire surface

  5. Add into a preheated oven, broil only option (top heat), between 4 to 5 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted, then remove from the oven

  6. Sprinkle each one with chopped fresh parsley, serve at once, enjoy!

I have made this open face sandwich three times. My husband keeps asking for it. There is something addictive about the ingredients you mix into the tuna. Delicious.

So easy – and often simply have all items on hand.
