Delicious RICE Using Pantry Staples | EASY & Affordable Recipe
In this post, I´m going to show you how to make a Delicious RICE Using Pantry Staples. This dish is not only easy & affordable, but packed with a ton flavors and very healthy for you. Serve it as a main course or even as a side dish, next to some grilled fish.
To make this dish I used Spanish round rice, which is the one that´s typically used to make paella. A common staple in every Spanish kitchen. However, you can use whatever rice you have on hand. Just make sure to check the package instructions, as the rice to liquid ratios might be different.
What really flavors this dish is the sweet smoked Spanish paprika and the thyme. Feel free to add any other type of spices or herbs that you like. If you want to add a little heat into this rice dish, just add in a small pinch of chili powder or even hot smoked paprika.
TIPS & TRICKS to Make this Recipe: You can serve this dish warm, at room temperature or even chilled. It will hold in the fridge in an air-tight container for up to 3 to 4 days.

Delicious RICE Using Pantry Staples
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 30 ml
- 1 small onion
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1/2 tsp sweet smoked Spanish paprika 1.25 grams
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme .50 grams
- 2 tomatoes
- 3 cups vegetable broth 720 ml
- 1 cup Spanish round rice 190 grams
- 10 oz canned or jarred white beans 295 grams
- 1/3 cup frozen peas 55 grams
- 4 eggs
- handful fresh parsley
- pinch sea salt
- dash black pepper
Instructions
-
Heat a large fry pan with a medium heat and add in the olive oil
-
In the meantime, finely chop the onion and roughly chop the garlic
-
Add the chopped onion and garlic into the hot pan, mix continuously, after 3 to 4 minutes and the onion is translucent, add in the paprika and thyme, quickly mix together, then add in the tomatoes finely grated and season with sea salt & black pepper, mix together and then simmer without mixing
-
Once the grated tomato has slightly thickened, about 3 to 4 minutes, add in the vegetable broth and turn it up to a high heat, when it comes to a boil add in the rice and the canned white beans (drained & rinsed), give it one final mix so everything is well mixed, then simmer without mixing
-
After 9 to 10 minutes and most of the broth has been absorbed but there´s still plenty of broth left, lower it to a low-medium heat, then add in the frozen peas and the eggs, I like to create little pockets in the rice for each egg, season the eggs with sea salt & black pepper, then place a lid on the pan and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the egg whites are set, then remove from the heat
-
Serve directly out of the pan or transfer into serving dishes, sprinkled with chopped fresh parsley, enjoy!

01 . Oct . 2023I’ve made this recipe three times now, and I love it. It’s like a more filling version of shakshuka! I use what I have in the pantry, so usually zucchini instead of peas and kidney beans instead of white. It’s delicious. I also tried it Asian style with edamame, sushi rice, ginger, and shiitake mushrooms, and it came out like a fully loaded congee. Delicious and flexible, thank you!

This is a very tasty recipe! I used brown Basmati rice, as that was what I had in my pantry. It took me more time (about 50 minutes) and I kept adding splashes of water so that the rice did not cook dry and so that I ended up with sufficient water above the rice for the last part with the peas and the eggs, as the recipe indicated. Loved the still slightly moist end result. Will make this again and again! Thank you for sharing your recipe with us.

Yes brown rice takes longer to cook and requies more liquid, either way, glad you enjoyed the dish!! Much love 🙂
