AMAZING Canned Tuna & Pasta Stew | EASY 30 Minute One-Pan Recipe

This Canned Tuna & Pasta Stew, known as Fideos con Atún, is packed with flavors, made with simple & affordable ingredients and all done in about 30 minutes. Serve this dish next to a crunchy baguette and a bottle of Spanish red wine for a complete and fulfilling meal.

Canned Tuna & Pasta Stew
To make this recipe, I used canned tuna in olive oil. You can also use tuna in water. However, I did use the olive oil from the canned tuna to sauté the vegetables. If you use tuna in water, just use extra virgin olive oil to cook the vegetables.

Canned Tuna & Pasta Stew
For the pasta, I used fideo cut spaghetti (The brand I used was Barilla, which you can find at your local supermarket). Known as just fideos in Spain. If you can’t find this type of pasta in your area. You can just use regular spaghetti and break it off into smaller pieces.

TIPS & TRICKS to Make this Recipe: Once you add the pasta, make sure to mix it every 1 to 2 minutes. This is going to help release the starch in the pasta, which will help thicken the stew. This dish will hold for up to 3 days in the fridge or 3 months in the freezer. Just add in more liquid when you reheat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans tuna in olive oil 4 oz / 110 grams each
  • 1 small onion
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 tsp sweet smoked Spanish paprika 2.50 grams
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme .50 grams
  • 15 oz can tomato sauce 425 grams
  • 4 cups vegetable broth 950 ml
  • 1 cup fideo cut spaghetti 4 oz / 110 grams
  • pinch sea salt
  • dash black pepper
  • fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the onion, roughly chop the garlic and finely chop the green bell pepper, drain the cans of tuna into a fine sieve with a bowl underneath and gently flake the tuna to remove any excess oil

  2. Heat a stock pot with a medium heat and add in 3 tbsp (45 ml) of the olive oil from the canned tuna

  3. After a couple of minutes add in the chopped vegetables, mix continuously, after 3 to 4 minutes and the vegetables are lightly sauteed, add in the paprika and dried thyme, quickly mix together, then add in the can of tomato sauce and season with sea salt & black pepper, mix together and then simmer without mixing

  4. Once the tomato sauce has slightly thickened, about 3 to 4 minutes, add in the broth, raise to a high heat and gently mix together, when it comes to a boil add in the pasta, mix every 1 to 2 minutes

  5. Once the pasta is just cooked al dente (check pasta cooking instructions), add in the drained tuna, turn off the heat and mix together until well mixed

  6. Transfer into bowls and garnish with fresh parsley, serve at once, enjoy!

I made this with macaroni, and saffron instead of thyme. I also added courgettes. It was delicious! Thank you

I have an abundance of sardines in olive oil. Do you think sardines would work in place of tuna?

Hi I live in Mexico and can’t find the sweet smoked Spanish paprika . I can only find regular smoked paprika. Will this work ? You have so many fabulous sounding recipes I want to try but I can’t find that one ingredient! Thanks
