Easy Jarred Artichoke Hearts Recipe with Spicy Tomato Sauce

– Easy Jarred Artichoke Hearts Recipe with Spicy Tomato Sauce –

This Easy Jarred Artichoke Hearts Recipe with Spicy Tomato Sauce is an amazingly tasty and healthy tapas appetizer. The entire dish is made in one pan and takes just about 20 minutes to make. I remember the first time I made this recipe, everyone was instantly in love with it. It´s one of those simple dishes that really packs a ton of flavor and makes for a great starter to any meal. You can even serve this as a side dish next to a Tortilla Paisana for a flavorful and full on Spanish dinner. The hot peppers I used for this recipe are Spanish peppers, which are mild in heat and difficult to find outside of Spain, so use your favorite hot peppers to make this recipe. I do recommend that you don´t go too big on the heat, as the star of the dish are the artichokes.

– Fresh Artichokes vs. Jarred Artichokes –

For this Easy Jarred Artichoke Hearts Recipe with Spicy Tomato Sauce I used jarred artichokes as the title states. I have made this dish with fresh artichokes before, and it has a completely different flavor. Believe it or not, the jarred artichokes gave this dish a far more superior flavor. Plus jarred artichokes are much cheaper than buying fresh artichokes and a lot easier to work with. Many people swear by not buying jarred or canned goods, but the Spaniards are well know for making some of the best jarred and canned goods in the world. The difference between fresh and jarred artchokes, besides the flavor is the texture, and the jarred ones are ready to eat right our of the jar, while fresh ones need to be cleaned, peeled and cut. • -2 tbsp extra virgin Spanish olive oil
  • -5 cloves of garlic
  • -1/2 onion
  • -1 Spanish pepper
  • -1/2 cup tomato puree
  • -sea salt
  • -freshly cracked black pepper
  • -1/8 tsp white sugar

Instructions

  1. Drain a jar of small artichoke hearts and rinse them under cold running water, pat them dry with paper towels and set aside, thinly slice 5 cloves of garlic, finely dice 1/2 of an onion and thinly slice 1 hot pepper (I used a Spanish pepper)
  2. Heat a non-stick frying pan with a medium-heat and add 2 tablespoons of extra virgin Spainish olive oil, about a minute after adding the olive oil add the diced onions, sliced garlic and sliced peppers and mix with the oil, mix continuously and cook for about 2 minutes, then add the artichoke hearts, season with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper and mix everything together, mix occasionally for about 3 minutes
  3. Lower the fire to a LOW heat and add a 1/2 cup of tomato puree and season again with sea salt, freshly cracked black pepper, a pinch of white sugar and a 1/4 teaspoon of dried parsley and mix everything together until well combined, simmer for 4 minutes
  4. Transfer everything into a plate and garnish with freshly chopped parsley

Just made this recipe but used jalapeño since that’s what I had on hand. Absolutely delicious! Next time I’m going to try adding it to pasta.
